You would never even know it’s there unless you live in one of the surrounding houses. Tucked in a 1-acre lot within the quaint Sunnycrest Court in Urbana lives the fondly called Sunnycrest Tot Lot at 505 E. Sunnycrest Ct.
The small area was established in 1958 and hosts what I view as a nice neighborhood asset. It’s very small and very quiet. It’s an ideal place for an intimate playdate with a fellow parent and their little one(s). And when I say little ones—I mean it. I can’t see a child older than four or five enjoying the space.
There are infant-only swings, a small slide, ride-on animals and a fire truck. All the equipment is in good shape and specifically designed for little tots (hence the name tot lot). If you bring a school-age kid you are going to hear, “I’m bored.” A lot!
You’ll have to park on the edge of the park and road since it’s a neighborhood park. But, it’s not a high-traffic area, so it’s not an inconvenience. There are no bathrooms around, as I imagine it’s mostly used by people who live close. There are, however, picnic tables to enjoy a snack or picnic lunch.
You can easily sit and relax while watching your child play here. There is nothing big enough for them to hurt themselves on, and the space is small enough you can keep track of them as they move around.
If you are out and about in Urbana, make a pit stop at the Sunnycrest Tot Lot for a quick energy burn or low-key playdate.
