This Friday, 12/06/2024, UIAS will host their December Open House from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Campus Observatory (901 S Mathews Ave, Urbana, IL 61801).
Winter is a wonderful time for astronomers! Weather permitting, Jupiter, Saturn, and Orion’s Nebula will be visible through the 128-year-old refracting telescope. Jupiter is particularly stunning in December, displaying its captivating red spot. For an individualized experience, the modern backyard telescopes are available for observation. Remember to bundle up; it will likely be just as cold in the dome as in the backyard.
For the first time, the Campus Observatory is opening up its clock room for visitors. Alongside the antique room tours, the clock room offers an excellent opportunity to learn about the Observatory’s rich history.
With all these activities, your experience will surely be stellar!
