The Staerkel Planetarium offers matinée shows with sensory-friendly settings on selected Saturdays. Sensory-friendly shows have “lights up, sound down” settings and a relaxed atmosphere where patrons can come, go, and move around as needed. Sensory-friendly shows are great for guests with autism spectrum disorder, sensory sensitivities, or young children. All are welcome, even if you don’t need sensory accommodations!
Season of Light traces the history and development of many of the world’s December holiday customs, all of which involve lighting up the winter season. Season of Light also recounts the historical religious and cultural rituals practiced during the time of winter solstice – not only Christian and Jewish, but also Celtic, Nordic, Roman, Irish, Mexican, and Hopi. It also takes a look at some more light-hearted seasonal traditions.
Tickets are $8 for ages 13+ and $7 for Parkland Students, Children, Seniors, and Veterans/Military.
You can purchase tickets online by visiting tickets.parkland.edu or in person before the show.
