The Village of Bellflower sponsors a major community event – the July 4th celebration.
- The day begins with the Ryan Albin 5K Fun Run/Walk in honor of the late Illinois State Police Trooper Ryan Albin, a Bellflower native who was tragically killed in an accident while on duty.
- Immanuel Lutheran Church Ladies Aid/LWML holds a bake sale early that morning at the Fire Station.
- The Library and Depot Museum are open prior to the parade.
- The parade begins at the corner of E Melvin and N Latcha streets, winds through the village, and ends at Don Harden Field. Children are encouraged to decorate their bicycles and ride in the parade. Organizations can enter floats in the parade. Prizes are given to the three best-decorated bicycles and floats.
- Following the parade, the Bellflower Fire Protection District (BFPD) firemen serve a lunch at the Don Harden Field concession stand.
- All events for the remainder of the day take place at Don Harden Field, unless otherwise noted in the day’s schedule. Activities include kids’ games, a bag toss tournament, watermelon-eating contest, banana bingo, and a softball game. The concession stand is open in the afternoon with cold drinks and snacks. Food is served from the concession stand beginning in the late afternoon. Live entertainment begins around 7:00 p.m.
- The highlight of the day is surely the fireworks show which begins at dusk, approximately 9:00 p.m.
- Following the fireworks, the crowd can enjoy free ice cream served at the concession stand.
