Time to close the chapter called 2024 and look ahead to a new year
Families can choose from many events and activities happening this weekend in Champaign-Urbana
Can you believe it? We are closing the chapter of another year this week! No matter what you’ve walked through this year, our hope for you and your family is that you can look back with gratitude and ahead with hope for a new year to come.
There are a few events on our event calendar this weekend, but it will be another quiet one in Champaign-Urbana. On social, we will take a moment and recap some of the things you loved reading the most on chambanamoms.com in 2024. Lastly, some tips on planning a New Year’s celebration with kids this year are linked here.
We wish a Happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate! Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, began the night of Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024. It will last through the final candle — which will be lit the night of Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025. We have what you need to know about Chanukah here, as well as where to shop and how to celebrate in Champaign-Urbana, too.
Chambanamoms thanks Urbana Park District for presenting this weekend’s planner
The new year will ring in a new era for the Urbana Park District. After a grand opening/open house on Jan. 4 (noon-2:30 p.m.), UPD’s new Health and Wellness Center will open for good on Jan. 6. The $16.2 million facility is housed at 2002 E. Washington Street, stationed between the Brookens Center and Preston Williams Elementary School.
Some features include: two full-sized basketball courts (space for six pickleball courts), a two-lane track, cardio/weight room, feeding/sensory room, a community room and so much more.
A single membership for the Health and Wellness Center is $125 per year. OSF HealthCare has bankrolled a $30,000 scholarship program per year for the next five years.
Find more info on the Urbana Park District website.

We thank you for joining us this holiday season
This year, we have enjoyed shopping local, playing local and dining local during the heart of the holidays in Champaign-Urbana. You may be done shopping, but it is not too late to dine your way through C-U this week (around holiday closures, of course). The week lends itself to some particularly festive holiday meals later this week and heading into the weekend.
