The new Kidscape Playground in Champaign was borne of a need.
Hadil Kibech had spent two years living in Oregon, in a community that included “a variety of indoor playgrounds, which became a favorite activity with our daughters.” Upon moving to Champaign-Urbana, Kibech said, she didn’t find the same plethora of options.
“I noticed that this area was missing a similar play space, so I decided to open Kidscape Playground,” she said. “The location (53 E. Marketview Dr.) is ideal — situated near TJ Maxx and Costco, which are frequented by families, making it accessible for parents and kids alike.”
The Oct. 26 grand opening afternoon revealed a facility that includes multiple rooms to play, with a primary focus on toddlers and babies. For $16, a child can play for two hours.
“Kidscape is designed to be both educational and fun, providing children with a space to learn and play while giving parents a chance to connect with their kids and socialize with other parents,” Kibech said. “To maintain a clean and welcoming environment , we take a 30-minute break every two hours to reset and sanitize the space. Kidscape also offers birthday party packages and hosts special activity days to keep things fresh and engaging.”
Kibech is a native of Algeria who moved to the United States when she was 18. She studied linguistics at Parkland and the U of I and now lives in Champaign with her husband and two daughters.
