The new playground at Urbana’s Meadowbrook Park, dubbed PrairiePlay, has opened.
The accessible playground is open from dawn to dusk at 2808 S. Race St. Open year-round, the playground will be featured in an open house on May 3, 2025.
PrairiePlay is the centerpiece of a $1.1 million project that was funded by grants and private donations. It contains climbing structures, zip lines, swings and a music station.
The previous playground was constructed in 1995 and consisted largely of wood structures, which deteriorated with age.
“This is a culmination of a true community effort to replace a beloved playground with a new one accessible to more people,” Tim Bartlett, executive director of the Urbana Park District, said.
