The Champaign-Urbana Theatre Company presents The Sound of Music at the Virginia Theatre for a weekend of performances. Adult tickets are $22 but seniors, students and children get discounts.
Crystal Lake Park Art Fair, Aug. 3-4
The sixth annual event, sponsored by 40 North and the Urbana Park District, features more than 40 local and regional art vendors with paintings, textiles, ceramics, sculpture, photography, jewelry, poetry, glass, mixed media and more.
Seussical Jr. Presented by Champaign Park District, Aug. 8-10
Dr. Seuss’ best-loved characters come to life in this musical caper. Run time is approximately 90 minutes with a 15-minute intermission. Four performances over three days at The Virginia Theatre.
St. Joseph Community Fall Festival, Aug. 8-10
There are many reasons to attend — carnival rides, food vendors, parade, tractor pull, fish fry, etc. — but the highlight likely comes Saturday with the fireworks show. Get the details here.
Clearview Farm and its sunflowers are the stars of the fourth annual show, but there’s plenty to do for an evening of fun, including live music, ice cream and a food truck. Free admission.
Champaign-Urbana Days, Aug. 10-11

Free Movie Night with Illinois Athletics, Aug. 10

Mahomet Music Festival, Aug. 23-24
Formerly called the Sangamon River Music Festival, the annual event in downtown Mahomet features a parade, carnival rides, vendors, crafters, a bags tournament and lots of free music.
Arthur Amish Country Cheese Festival & Hoopeston National Sweet Corn Festival, Aug. 31
Both of these festivals are longtime staples and worth whatever drive you have to make in order to partake. Whether it’s cheese or sweet corn, why not finish up summer with some good food?
