It is that time of year – the fair is about to begin!

Families can choose from many events and activities happening this weekend in Champaign-Urbana

There are many events throughout the year that punctuate a family in Champaign-Urbana’s experience when it comes to family fun and the Champaign County Fair is certainly on that list. We will feature a number of events below that are NOT tied to carnival rides, funnel cakes or demolition derbies but know that we are SO excited that the fair has made its way to town!

Don’t overlook the daytime experience at the Champaign County Fair and head out during the day to watch some of the livestock shows while grabbing food from your favorite stands, too.

Thursday, August 1 – Sunday, August 4, at the historic Virginia Theatre

One of the most beloved musicals of all time, performed live on the Virginia stage – with live orchestral accompaniment!

The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein, 1959’s Broadway smash The Sounds of Music features a trove of cherished songs, including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” and the beloved title number.

Champaign County Forest Preserve District

This year, the new Summer Splash event will be held on July 27 on the peninsula at Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve. The Champaign County Forest Preserve District is partnering with the Upper Sangamon River Conservancy for an exciting, family-friendly event.

Activities include:

fishing
canoeing/kayaking
exhibits, including a live fish display from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
food trucks
inflatable water slide
and more!
