Junction FC, the new women’s semi-professional soccer team based in Urbana, will play its inaugural home game at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Urbana High School Athletic Complex.
Junction FC will face the Dayton Dutch Lions on Saturday as well as Sunday (2 p.m.) as part of the Women’s Premier Soccer League. Junction FC announced in February it would begin play this spring; the team began the season with four road games in May.
Junction FC’s co-president and general manager is Mark Sikora, a longtime youth and scholastic coach in C-U who is also the men’s coach at Parkland College. The team is coached by Kip McDaniel, a Champaign native, youth coach and current coach at St. Thomas More.
Tickets are available on the Junction FC website and also at the gate. Admission is $15. Children 12 and under are free with a paying adult.
A Dick’s House of Sport Meet the Players session, allowing fans to get up-close with the team for autographs and photos, begins at 11 a.m. Saturday. A variety of food trucks will be available for the game, joining sponsor tents and kids’ activities.
