The Urbana Free Library will kick off year-long 150th anniversary celebration with a free birthday party on June 15.
The all-ages event runs from 1-3 p.m. and features historical games from the Museum of the Grand Prairie, crafts, music from 1874 and cake.
The party serves as the starting point for a celebration that continues through June 30, 2025, including historical talks, crafts for all ages, a scavenger hunt and more.
The library is offering two reading programs. Its annual Summer Reading Program runs from May 13-Aug. 31. It begins in tandem with the 150th Anniversary Reading Challenge, which runs from May 13-June 20, 2025. Those interested in participating can sign up and track their progress through the Beanstack app. All reading counts for both programs and prizes will be awarded.
The Urbana Free Library was founded in 1874 and is one of the oldest public libraries in Illinois. Learn more about the library and its services here.
