The discount retailer pOpshelf says it hopes to open a north Champaign location in “spring 2024.”
The new store, at 2204 N. Prospect Avenue in Champaign, will offer “an affordable and fun shopping experience” with the majority of its inventory priced at $5 or less. A pOpshelf spokesperson said the company provides “a selection of on-trend seasonal and home decor, health and beauty must-haves, home cleaning supplies, household and specialty items, arts and crafts, party planning and entertaining needs, toys and more.”
The company is a division of Dollar General and currently operates more than 200 stores in the eastern half of the United States. The Champaign store will be pOpshelf’s ninth location in Illinois and first outside of the Chicago and St. Louis metro areas. Its first store opened in 2020.
In addition to the categories listed above, pOpshelf offers an array of school supplies, electronics and pet supplies, among other items, on its online store.
It also partners with The Confetti Foundation to provide parties to children who have to spend their birthdays in a hospital, pediatric oncology clinic or hospice facility.
