Forget “The Voice” and ‘The Masked Singer.” Here’s your chance to perform in front of 15,000 of your fellow fans at an Illinois basketball game.
Auditions are being held to perform the national anthem at an Illini men’s or women’s game this season. The tryouts are set for 5-8 p.m. Oct. 11 in the Hall of Fame Room at the Bielfeldt Athletics Administration Building (1700 S. Fourth St.) in Champaign.
Those seeking to audition must fill out this form. Submitting the form does not guarantee a performance at a men’s or women’s basketball game.
If you can’t audition in person, you can submit a link to a video audition instead. Priority for scheduling performers for games will be given to those who audition in person.
This is the third year that auditions have been offered for aspiring national anthem performers. And, yes, notoriety can follow. In 2021 a U of I student made headlines when he performed the anthem on his violin. And in 2022, a much younger violinist performed the anthem. We look forward to hearing what happens in 2023.
