“Coming Soon” sign signals the future opening of a Champaign Crumbl cookie store
A storefront in Champaign reveals a new Crumbl location coming to our community
If you’ve found yourself near Crumbl while visiting Bloomington-Normal and Peoria — or other nearby cities such as Chicago, Indianapolis or St. Louis — your friends have probably encouraged you to give it a try. And now chambanamoms.com has learned that Crumbl plans to open a location in Champaign.
In the storefront formerly occupied by Smallcakes at 2005 S. Neil St., signage on the windows and doors makes it clear that plans are underway for a Crumbl there. No timetable is available yet.
Given its proximity to the University of Illinois campus and convenient to residents of Champaign, Urbana and all surrounding communities, this location figures to make a splash when it opens.
Crumbl first arrived in Central Illinois in 2021, when it opened in Peoria. A Bloomington store followed, opening in December 2022.
In July 2023, the Springfield Business Journal reported that the Peoria franchisee is planning a store in the Illinois capitol city.
Crumbl cookies are mega-sized, with its online nutrition facts describing 1/4 of a cookie as a serving size (but really, who stops there). Available varieties rotate weekly and can be ordered ahead of time on its app or at an in-store kiosk upon arrival. Crumbl is best known for its signature mega-cookies but also offers smaller cookies for purchase.
Each custom order is assembled as close to your pickup time as possible, with some varieties assembled right before you pick up your box. Some of the cookies are chilled; many are not.
Customers can get an official Crumbl cookie cutter to slice your cookie into perfect 1/4 pieces. Of course, you can just do this on your own — or skip the portions altogether, we aren’t judging. Customers can add a gift bow and message to their signature pink box for special occasions.
Crumbl has quite the customer base, with many customers insistent on returning every week when the cookie varieties change. You’ll find the weekly menu lasting Monday-Saturday each week, with locations closed on Sundays.
Crumbl opened its first store in Utah in 2017, near Utah State University, with two cousins taking their “perfect cookie quest” to the people. According to their story on the website:
“From day one, it was important to (the founders) that Crumbl customers see their cookies being mixed, balled, baked and dressed in real-time. Equally as important were the high-quality ingredients used in each unique batch. At first, Crumbl only served fresh milk chocolate chip cookies for takeout and delivery, but other services slowly began being offered.”
Crumbl now has over 800 bakeries around the country and just expanded to Canada this year.
