There’s never been a better time to visit Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium than this fall.
That’s because the iconic lakefront aquarium — at one time the largest indoor aquarium in the world — recently announced the most free admission days for Illinois residents at least since pre-pandemic times.
But don’t wait too long: these free fall weekdays are currently confirmed just for September and October.
The extended freebie will begin the day after Labor Day (Sept. 5) and will continue through Halloween (Oct. 31). During this time Illinois residents can receive free general admission on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays — all day long, including during evening hours.
Why are we especially excited about this announcement?
- At the Shedd, free general admission gains you entry to almost all of their regular exhibits, including Stingray Touch and Animal Spotlights. (Admission to the various 4-D Experiences is a $4.95 upgrade per guest per experience.)
- Your family will save a big chunk of change! While exact admission costs vary for non-Chicago residents under the Shedd’s new “plan-ahead pricing,” a family of four will save up to $140 on an Illinois Resident Free Day.
Note that tickets must be reserved online before your visit. In the past, the aquarium has required Illinois residents to present a valid state-issued ID when picking up those tickets.
