Find out what’s open on Labor Day in Champaign-Urbana
It’s almost Labor Day weekend in Champaign-Urbana, and what does that mean? It’s the (un)official end of summer. Time for pools to close and the autumn season to start. It’s also a time to celebrate the achievements of workers in America. In other words, all of us!
Some Labor Day facts:
- Labor Day became an official federal holiday in 1894. (Oregon had been the first state to make it an official public holiday in 1887.)
- Labor Day is the last day it is considered fashionable to “wear white.” This, of course, is entirely subjective and, frankly, rejected by many fashionistas. Wear white at your own risk.
- Labor Day is a great time to shop ’til you drop. Labor Day weekend sales have become vital to many retailers, some of whom consider it second only to the November-December holiday shopping period.
