A new option for fall family fun around Champaign-Urbana
Building on the success of the Boneyard Arts Festival, 40 North and the Urbana Arts and Culture Program have collaborated to create PostMark, a family event series that strives to offer a showcase of Urbana’s art, food, and fun.
PostMark — short for post market — hopes to drive patrons to downtown Urbana businesses on a monthly basis. After a visit to Urbana’s Market at the Square or the Champaign-Urbana Winter Farmers Market, the council hopes that attendees will “make a day of it” and enjoy shopping and dining nearby. Maps will show participating businesses and restaurants.
The “main hub” for PostMark will be the Busey Bank parking lot. During colder months (November-April), PostMark festivities will move to a different indoor “main hub” location each month in downtown Urbana. When the main hub is scheduled to be outside (May-October), a backup location will be secured in case of inclement weather. Winter will call for indoor locations.
The inaugural event will take place on Sept. 9, from 12-4 p.m. It will include live music and balloon art in the streets of downtown Urbana where families can plan to enjoy food specials, art demonstrations and displays, and unique shopping experiences.
The featured PostMark event in October will be the Urbana Fall Fusion Festival (4-8 p.m. on Oct. 7). Look for downtown streets to be closed to traffic but open for fun and entertainment. The Fall Fusion Festival will include face painting, balloons, characters, bubbles, a professional pumpkin carver, a Champaign-Urbana Special Recreation slime station, plus events at the library. Multiple photo opportunities will also be available.
