If you haven’t seen The Super Mario Bros. Movie in theaters, you’ll have another chance this summer and the best part is — get this — it’s free.
That film is in the lineup for the Summer Films on the Quad series, a free set of movies that are shown on the University of Illinois Quad each Thursday starting May 18 and running through Aug. 10.
For young kids, the highlights are The Super Mario Bros. Movie (July 2) — which is still showing in area theaters — and The Little Mermaid (Aug. 10). The only drawback: Each film starts at 9 p.m. so the little ones might have to stay up past their normal bedtime.
Kids who are a bit older will find appealing options, too. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled for July 13, and Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret is slated for June 15.
If you’re unfamiliar, the Summer Films on the Quad series offers a cheap night of outdoor entertainment. Bring a blanket, a lawn chair, snack, dinner or anything else to the Quad and watch the film on a big-screen monitor.
Another option: Take advantage of the students’ absence from campus and hit one of our favorite Campustown places to eat.
