The Costco Food Court in Champaign sees churros, tables appear for the first time since opening in October
Costco was met with open arms when it arrived in Champaign-Urbana last fall. In the months since, families have grown accustomed to stopping by the self-serve checkout kiosks in the food court and getting their snacks to go. But now, for the first time since opening in October, tables have arrived at the food court AND the famous Costco churros have been added to the menu, too!
About the churros
Churros were long a staple on the Costco food court menu, prior to the pandemic. They were pulled from the menu in 2020, and now for the first time since we’ve had a Champaign-Urbana store, you can get your own Costco churros. Dedicated Costco fans who have long been driving out of town for their Costco trips have let us know that the churros did get one small twist — literally. They used to have straight ridges and now on the menu in a twisted form, as a twisted churro.
You can still pick up all of the other items that have been on the menu since opening in the fall. Fun fact: Did you know that Costco has NEVER raised the price of $1.50 on the hot dog/drink combo since opening in 1984? It is true!
Tables at the food court … tada!
Perhaps the most significant change to our Costco shopping trips is that there is now an abundance of tables just outside the food court. Want to set your kids up with a snack from the food court while you check out? Have a shopping partner that needs to sit and take a break for a bit while you wrap up your run? These tables are here for you. And with 59-cent fountain drinks on free refill, that may really sweeten the deal for some in your shopping party.
OK, but what about the samples?
The rumor on the street is that Costco samples are slowly rolling out at stores throughout the country during June. As for our Champaign Costco, we still see Costco team members standing next to what will be sample stations (soon!) and showcasing various products without a taste test involved. We will be sure to keep you updated on when the samples officially return and what protocol we’re seeing for samples locally upon their much-anticipated return (well, launch, since we’ve not had samples since our store officially opened).
