Mahomet’s Freedom Fest, traditionally held on July 4, moved to Friday, July 2 this year
Champaign-Urbana area families can look forward to fireworks and more at Mahomet Freedom Fest, and volunteers are needed to make it happen
With summer officially here, we are anticipating so much when it comes to favorite traditions for Champaign-Urbana families. And we are on pins and needles as our neighboring communities announce their official Fourth of July plans so we can begin to get excited. While there were some opportunities to catch fireworks in 2020, they were canceled in many locations with a “see you in 2021” … and now we’re ready to go!
Freedom Fest in Mahomet, held at Lake of the Woods, is moving to Friday, July 2, this year. Mark your calendars!
The fireworks launched over the picturesque lake in Mahomet are returning! And visitors are welcome to come to Lake of the Woods to see the display.
Boat rentals and music start at 4 p.m. and at 9 p.m., after a tribute to service men and women, they Light Up The Lake with a spectacular fireworks display set to music. Admission is $2 per person, with children 5 and under free. Military persons with ID get in free. Boat rentals are from 4-7 p.m. only.
Freedom Fest volunteers are needed to serve as parking attendants, gate attendants, and for assistance with paddle boats. Volunteers will be given a t-shirt and a meal. Contact Sue Gallo at volunteer@ccfpd.org if you’d like to help out.
Mark your calendars for July 2 in Mahomet!
Editor’s Note: The Champaign County Freedom Celebration in Champaign will have its fireworks display the evening of July 4; no food vendors or other entertainment will be provided prior to the show. The daytime 5K and parade will not be held in 2021. The Rantoul Area Chamber of Commerce announced its fireworks will also be held on July 2, and a parade the morning of July 4.
