Curbside pick-up at Aldi in Champaign is available now, and curbside at Aldi in Savoy will begin the week of April 5
Aldi is rolling out curbside pick-up at its stores and we are ready for this! Curbside pickup has become the norm this year and Aldi, with a focus on a no-frills shopping experience, has been one we’ve been missing from our curbside line-up.
The company announced it would accelerate adding curbside service options to its stores in the early days of the pandemic. The service has been available in Bloomington-Normal stores since July. It’s unclear why the service option has been delayed in Champaign-Urbana.
Since this is already happening in Bloomington-Normal, we’ve done some research to let you know how it works so you’re ready as soon as it is available in the Champaign, Urbana and Savoy stores.
Curbside pick-up at Aldi is powered by Instacart, just like delivery of Aldi groceries. When you click the pricing announcement on the curbside website, you’ll get this message:
Prices vary from in-store – ALDI sets the price of items on this platform. Item prices may vary from in-store prices in your area. Prices may be higher than in-store prices to cover the cost of personal shopping.
This is an important thing to note because prices may not exactly match what you pay when you run into Aldi. Anyone that has used Instacart for delivery can vouch for this, too. At a glance, the prices don’t look glaringly different than what you expect when you walk into Aldi. However, because we’ve done this exercise with comparing in-store prices to Instacart delivery prices, we know there may be some slight mark-ups there.
ALDI started offering Champaign-Urbana area customers delivery options via Instacart in 2018.
Alongside the existing grocery delivery offering through Instacart, shoppers now have more access to ALDI than ever before.
OK, on to more good stuff! Aldi’s items are all available for order and they’re conveniently organized by department on the left hand side (pictured here in desktop view). This makes shopping for vegan, gluten-free and organic items extra convenient, if this is something you need.
Another cool thing, and kind of a complementing perk to the price mark-ups on some items, is that there will be coupons and “biggest savings” items you can click on while you shop. This is great, since all of Aldi’s items are really very reasonably priced and this is just another way to save some more.
Order pick-up fees are FREE and there is a $10 minimum per order. Not bad, all things considered. At Meijer, you’ll get free pick-up with a $40 order and at Walmart the minimum is $35.
Expect to schedule out about a day (again, pretty standard for curbside pickup when it comes to groceries in Champaign-Urbana).
At shop.ALDI.us, Champaign-Urbana area customers can access the full selection of ALDI-exclusive products and ALDI Finds. Shoppers simply fill their online carts with fresh and affordable products and select a pickup time and location at checkout. Designated parking spots are clearly marked when they arrive at their ALDI and an employee will load groceries into their car.
