The Urbana Indoor Aquatic Center will open under a limited schedule Aug. 3.
Lap swimming will be available from 6-8 a.m. and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Swimmers must sign up for a 45-minute slot, which will allow for proper social distancing in lanes. Lap swimmers can sign up by visiting the website, clicking ‘register online’ and in the search area entering ‘lap swim.’ Swimmers will need to sign up for time slots each week; registration will be available one week prior to the requested date.
Aquatics manager Leslie Radice said the pool will be open on weekends only for private rentals. “We will offer open swim when park district administration deems it appropriate,” she said.
“We will track the latest public health news and guidelines. We plan to open more pool features and allow more people to come to the pool as it becomes safer,” she said.
Radice said the facility will receive a deep cleaning daily.
“We are dedicated to making sure the Urbana Indoor Aquatic Center follows all CDC COVID-19 cleaning standards,” Radice said. “Staff will be cleaning the locker rooms and high touch points at least every hour. During the times where we do not offer scheduled swims, staff will be deep cleaning the facility, including but not limited to the pool deck, locker rooms, front foyer, and stairwells.”
The suitmates, water fountains, lockers and facility-provided swimming equipment will not be available due to safety concerns.
