A new specialty bakery will open in Champaign on Thursday, with a multitude of loyal and passionate fans ready and waiting.
Nothing Bundt Cakes owner/operator Mila Thomas Fuller posted on Facebook on Tuesday to let the community know that “the wait is almost over.”
“The wait is almost over. ? Please join our amazing team on Thursday, July 30, 2020 for our soft opening. Our doors will be open from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm. Our team looks forward to introducing you to our bundtinis, bundtlets, bundt cakes and our super cute Bundtique!”
Nothing Bundt Cakes is located at 408 W. Town Center Boulevard in Champaign, not far from Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers. It is the first tenant of the newly constructed Champaign Station Retail Shopping Center near the corner of Town Center Boulevard and Neil Street in the North Prospect/Market Place shopping corridor. (For all you Costco fans, it’s not far away.)
Nothing Bundt Cakes is famous for round cakes that come in a variety of sizes and flavors, including chocolate chocolate chip, red velvet, white chocolate raspberry, lemon and confetti. Bakeries offer 10-inch cakes, 8-inch cakes, Bundtlets and bite-sized Bundtinis, as well as gifts. It also offers decorated cakes for special occasions.
The Nothing Bundt Cakes story started in 1997, with two women entrepreneurs in Las Vegas. Since then, it has expanded to have more than 300 bakeries across the United States, most owned by local franchisees.
Now based in Dallas, the company has enjoyed success in Illinois, with almost 20 locations in the greater Chicagoland area alone. The closest bakery to Champaign currently is one in Bloomington, which opened in 2019. Another store is “coming soon” to Springfield.
Nothing Bundt Cakes is the latest bakery to open in Champaign since the pandemic began.
After closing at its previous location in late 2019, April brought the reopening of Sweet Indulgence in its new home in the Shoppes of Knollwood complex off South Neil Street. A full service bakery that sells cookies, muffins, cupcakes, cakes, pies and more, Sweet Indulgence is located in the space previously occupied by Great Harvest Bread Company.
In May, Tasty Tart opened just south of downtown Champaign, and has already made quite an impression on sweet lovers with its eight flavors of tarts – from traditional fruit and others.
(While writing about these businesses, we realize that they are all located off Neil Street through town. Seems like a “trail” with Sweet Indulgence to the south, Tasty Tart in the middle, and Nothing Bundt Cakes north near Market Place Mall. Time for a drive?)
