Champaign Unit 4 Schools offers two options for reopening schools for 2020-21 school year
The draft will be discussed at the school board meeting on July 13; the public is welcome to comment or view the meeting on TV and streaming
Champaign Unit 4 Schools on Friday afternoon released a tentative reopening plan for the 2020-21 school year.
The plan includes two potential options for students.
Families May Choose Their Learning Options*
The District’s plan has two main options:
“In-Person with Blended Learning or attendance at the District’s new Virtual Academy. Both options allow for regular daily instruction while providing as much safety as possible for students, staff, and families.”
*Plans for kindergarten and pre-kindergarten remain in development.
The first option: In-person and blended learning. Students in grades 1-5 would attend school in-person for approximately four hours per day and would complete one hour per day at home. Students in grades 6-12 would alternate in-person attendance days with virtual learning (based on last name) on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. All students in grades 6-12 would attend virtual school on Wednesday. Plans for kindergarten and pre-kindergarten remain in development.
- Target 18 students per class
- Transportation provided with 50 students or less
- Food Service provided following IDPH guidelines – both breakfast and lunch as required
The second option: A virtual academy. The district is developing a Virtual Academy school for families that desire an at-home learning option. The virtual school would operate as a separate school in the district, complete with a program supervisor and dedicated teachers. More information on the Virtual Academy will be available in late July. Parents would have the option to enroll their students in the Virtual Academy for the fall 2020 session. Plans for kindergarten and pre-kindergarten remain in development.
- Daily classes will be held with assigned teachers.
- Grading and assessments will be consistent with traditional in-person schools.
- Students, as needed, would be provided with all necessary equipment.
- The District is examining ways to provide internet service in areas of the community that do not have access.
