One of the entrepreneurs behind the spread of the poke bowl popularity in the Champaign-Urbana area has opened another storefront – this time, in Mahomet.
Poke Shack opened in Eastwood Center in Mahomet on April 15.
The restaurant was originally supposed to open on March 16 according to real estate broker Jill Guth, but pushed it back after the current circumstances quickly unfolded.
Poke Shack is located near the Hen House and CVS, right off the Interstate. (If you’re headed to Lake of the Woods, this is another possible place to stop and grab lunch.)
Customers can enter the store to place their take out orders or call at 217-586-7425. It’s currently open from 11 am – 3 pm, Monday through Friday.
Poke Shack is owned by Shai Mauth, a food entrepreneur behind many successful eateries in town. He’s perhaps best known for his influence on Broadway Food Hall as well as the new sushi/poke store at Carle at the Fields, King Kuma.
That restaurant opened in late October; starting this week, it is open for carryout only from 11 am to 2 pm Wednesday through Friday.
At first glance, Poke Shack’s menu appears to be a bit more extensive than King Kuma’s. In addition to create your own poke bowls, it offers plate lunches of other (cooked) dishes including kalua pork, chicken curry, and gyudon beef, according to the initial menu offering.
