Organizers on Tuesday announced that the annual Champaign County Freedom Celebration has been canceled for 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
All events are canceled — fireworks, parade and 5K run.
According to its release, the Freedom Celebration board “waited as long as possible to make this decision but the recent announcement from the University of Illinois to cancel all summer events until further notice (sic) prompted this decision.”
The university on Monday announced that all summer camps and events would be canceled through July 10.
The release noted that the Freedom Celebration relies upon the support of numerous entities, including the university.
“Thank you for your continued support,” it said, addressing C-U residents, “and we look forward to seeing you all on July 4, 2021.”
