A spring staple for those looking for enticing free activities won’t be happening this year.
Goodrich Theaters, whose ownership includes Savoy 16, is not offering free movies on weekends, according to a Twitter statement this week.
“We are no longer offering spring or fall movies due to very limited selections after the Disney/Fox acquisition,” the tweet said. “We will be offering a series in the summer. More info to come on that.”
A company spokesman was not immediately available for comment Wednesday.
Disney last spring purchased the film and television assets of 21st Century Fox, creating one of the largest media mergers ever and giving Disney control over a large cache of entertainment.
Previously Savoy 16 moviegoers could see free movies (if they were GQT rewards members; $1 if not) each week on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings. For example, last spring the free movies began on March 1 and included titles like Teen Titans Go, Sherlock Gnomes, Jumanji and Peter Rabbit.
Savoy 16 also had a summer series of free movies and a fall series in 2019.
