The Orpheum Children’s Science Museum in Champaign announced Wednesday a reduction in its regular hours as it continues a quest for funding.
The museum, a 26-year staple of downtown Champaign, said in an release that it is “nearing the end” of a fundraising campaign to raise $30,000 to “keep our doors open.”
“We have made some progress toward that goal,” it said, encouraging citizens to contribute here. As of Wednesday afternoon, the site showed $4,375 had been raised toward its goal.
Effective Feb. 4, the Orpheum’s new hours will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday; and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It will remain closed on Monday per usual. The museum will remain open for reservations only on weekday afternoons; that includes group visits, school field trips and girl scouts workshops.
The new hours will remain in effect until June 1 although the Orpheum will return to its normal hours during spring break, March 16-20.
