Chambanamoms.com just got a little sibling. Or older sibling, depending on how you want to look at it.
The team at Chambanamoms has birthed ChambanaSeniors.com, our latest endeavor to help Champaign-Urbana residents live their best lives. You can read more about ChambanaSeniors here, but the main point is this: We aim to be an online resource for active older adults with an emphasis on local information.
So who, exactly, is a senior? Funny you should ask. We’ve gotten that question more than a few times recently. The bottom line is a senior is however you want to define one. Some people or organizations (like AARP) consider anyone age 50 to be a senior. Other say 55. Some businesses won’t honor discounts for anyone under 60 or 62.
Really, the definition isn’t important. We hope that no matter your age you’ll find useful information — all for FREE, of course, just like Chambanamoms — that can help readers enjoy what many people feel are the best years of their lives.
ChambanaSeniors.com will also be a place where you can find events and happenings in C-U with a comprehensive events calendar that has a slightly different focus: stuff for grownups. Lectures, workshops, social and cultural events that might not be great for kiddos will be on that calendar. (Have something to add? Submit it HERE.)
While there may be some overlap, that calendar will have a very different feel than the one on this site.
Many thanks to our founding partners: Clark-Lindsey Village and the Community Foundation of East Central Illinois, who championed this idea and provided support and resources to get ChambanaSeniors from idea to reality. We are also proud to work with Age-Friendly Champaign-Urbana, an organization devoted to making our community a destination for people across the lifespan.
So please dig in. Rest assured, just like any newborn, ChambanaSeniors will continue to grow and develop. Much like Chambanamoms.com doesn’t look anything like what it did 10 years ago, we expect ChambanaSeniors to change and evolve as we move forward.
We want ChambanaSeniors to be as valuable a resource to Champaign-Urbana as Chambanamoms. Do not hesitate to give us feedback, regardless of the nature. Reach us on the ChambanaSeniors Facebook page or send us an email at editor@chambanaseniors.com.
