Lululemon Opens Pop-Up Store in Champaign-Urbana
Editor’s Note: As of Monday, October 7, 2019, lululemon is officially open for business at Marketplace Mall in Champaign.
Champaign-Urbana lululemon fans unite: the specialty athletic apparel retailer will be opening a seasonal pop-up format as soon as September.
The lululemon store news was confirmed by Dennis Robertson, general manager of Market Place Shopping Center.
“They are going to open a pop-up store beginning in October,” Robertson said Thursday. “They will be in the Macy’s wing. We are turning over the space to them by Sept. 1. They should be open by October; Oct. 4 is the projected opening date.” Editor’s Note: As of Monday, October 7, 2019, lululemon is officially open for business at Marketplace Mall in Champaign.
The lululemon website also confirms that the seasonal store is coming to Market Place Shopping Center in Champaign.
“This is a pop-up store, and if sales meet their expectations they would consider staying as a longer term tenant after the holidays,” Robertson said. “I hate to say shop there, and shop there a lot, but it’s kind of what it amounts to.”
Locally, lululemon is sold at Hatha Yoga and Fitness in Champaign.
Robertson speculated that lululemon is coming to Champaign-Urbana because of the University of Illinois college market.
“Most retailers look at sales online, demographics, and they make a decision if they want to be in the market,” he said.
In other mall news, a coffee retailer is coming back to Market Place Shopping Center, Robertson said. And it’s like going back in time. Gloria Jean’s, which was in the center many years ago, will be moving into the space formerly operated by Biggby Coffee. It will be opening by the end of September, Robertson said.
