Foot Golf Combines Soccer and Golf for All Ages Fun
Get outside and enjoy a game of foot golf with your family at Lake of the Woods in Mahomet
We are a family who enjoys spending time outside, so we were pretty excited to hear about the game of foot golf at the Lake of the Woods golf course in Mahomet. Not knowing a lot about golf myself, I was curious to know if I would be able to follow the concept of the game. Foot golf is, however, a combination of golf and soccer, so we all seemed to catch on fairly quickly.
When we arrived at the Lake of the Woods Golf Course, we drove right along the 9 hole foot golf course as we pulled up to the pro shop. The golf pro shop employees were helpful and knowledgeable about the course and gave our daughters a few tips on how to play. We brought our own soccer balls for the activity, but they are available for rent through the golf course pro shop for $1.00 per ball. Our girls preferred to each have their own ball in order to keep track of who got their kick closest to the cup.
The girls were very excited to try this activity for the first time. The concept of foot golf is to kick a soccer ball into a large diameter hole using the fewest number of kicks possible. We had a few wild kicks towards the beginning of the game, but learned how to control the kicks a little bit more towards the end of the game. The younger children on the course enjoyed running in between their kicks so that the ball had little time to stop between each kick. The adults appreciated the leisurely kick and walk between the holes on the course. The quiet atmosphere, beautiful landscaped course near the lake, and unique game all made for a fun evening for our family.
The Lake of the Woods foot golf course is designed with 9 unique holes, but players are able to compete 18 holes by circling around the course for a second time. Families can enjoy a round of 9 holes for $8/person with 18 holes running $12/person. If you are wondering about the length of time that it takes to play foot golf, plan for at least 30-45 minutes per 9 holes. Of course, this can be dependent upon your family’s style of play, as well.
One item that our girls always like to check out are snack opportunities wherever we go. The snack bar is open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily on days that the golf course is open. It offers a variety of snack options for grown ups and children alike.
What we learned is that foot golf is definitely an activity for kids and grown-ups alike. I was worried that my limited knowledge of golf would hold me back from grasping the concept of the game, but it was a very fun alternative to traditional activities that we have tried. We will definitely be planning our return visit soon.
