The Indigo Girls are coming back to Champaign-Urbana this fall.
The Grammy-winning indie folk-rock duo will play the Virginia Theatre in Champaign on Tuesday, November 12. Tickets go on sale to the public on Friday, July 19 at 10 a.m. Tickets range from $39.50 to $59.50.
You can buy tickets online from the Virginia Theatre website or at the box office in downtown Champaign.
Thirty years after the iconic single “Closer to Fine” – an anthem of Generation X – was released, the Indigo Girls have hardly slowed down. By the time they get to Champaign, they will have spent most of the year touring.
No strangers to college towns and their charm, the Indigo Girls came out of the Athens, Georgia, music scene.
This isn’t the first time the Indigo Girls have played in Champaign-Urbana, but we spent part of Monday trying to piece together the previous concerts here. The most recent one we found was a 2004 show at Foellinger Auditorium in Urbana; could it really be that long? They also played Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in 2003 and the Virginia Theater in 1991, according to our sleuthing. Fun fact: The Indigo Girls were nominated for the Best New Artist Grammy Award that went to Milli Vanilli. Milli Vanilli was later stripped of the honor after it was revealed they were lip syncing.
The Virginia Theatre also has subscriptions available for the 2019-2020 season, and the Indigo Girls concert is part of the package. For more information, visit the Virginia Theatre’s website.
