The annual Homer Soda Fest, a popular event that graces the first weekend in June, is undergoing a change — but apparently only for 2018.
The Soda Fest will be integrated into Homer’s annual Krazee Daze event, this year scheduled for Aug. 23-25. The Homer Soda Company, which sponsors the Soda Fest, ran into organizing issues this year, said Christine Cunningham, head of the Homer Community Improvement Association.
“The soda fest people kind of got in a jam and realized they couldn’t pull off the normal Soda Fest in June. But they didn’t want to totally not have anything this year,” said Cunningham, whose group organizes Krazee Daze. “So we got together and said let’s combine the two, that way we can take over all the vendors, all the bands, all of that stuff that we normally do for Krazee Daze anyway. Soda Fest is still going to do the soda tastings and they’re going to help with some costs, (and) do advertising that we normally wouldn’t do for Krazee Daze. It’s more of a partnership than a sponsorship.
“But Soda Fest should be back as normal next year as a separate event.”
Homer Soda Company officials couldn’t be reached for comment.
Krazee Daze features food vendors, unique vendors, live music and carnival rides.
