Has it been awhile since you visited the Champaign Public Library? You might want to head over to check out the new additions to the children’s play area!
Highlights include:
- large play table with multiple sections, including a backlit portion for things like magnatiles
- food play area, where kids can play grocery store or restaurant (think a smaller version of what you’ve seen at children’s museums)
- towering wooden dollhouse, with lots of bright, primary colors in the different rooms (no Barbie dreamhouse here!)
- magnetic wall, with gears that can be repositioned
The space was thoughtfully designed so that parents can easily supervise their children, even if they’re playing at different stations and there’s plenty of room for multiple children to play at the same station at the same time. The first thing my four year old ran for was the huge dollhouse, while my seven year old set up camp with the play food.
It’s so great this space is up and running just in time for summer, when families will be looking for places to play and stay cool at the same time. I would say it was designed with the toddler/preschooler in mind, but kids in the early elementary years should find plenty to do if they are playing as well.
