Champaign-Urbana’s favorite frozen treat shop, Jarling’s Custard Cup, will celebrate its 35th anniversary on Saturday. To celebrate, Jarling’s has announced new hours.
If you’ve ever been bummed on a weekend that you couldn’t satisfy your Jarling’s Custard Cup craving past 10 pm, fear not: those hours will change. Beginning on Saturday, April 28, Jarling’s Custard Cup will have later hours on Friday and Saturday nights, staying open until 11 p.m. The new hours for both the drive thru and lobby are Sunday through Thursday from noon-10 p.m. and Friday-Saturday from nooon-11 p.m.
“We want to delight our customers and be there when they want a special treat,” said Tom Siegel, who represents the Jarling’s Custard Cup ownership group, in a news release. “So, adding a few more hours to our schedule, as well as staying open year-round, is something we are excited about and which makes total sense for us as we are always striving to add the little things to enhance the customer experience. People are loving our new drive thru system, which has helped us improve our service levels.”
Jarling’s Custard Cup opened on Kirby Avenue on April 28, 1983, by Doug and Christy Jarling. To mark the anniversary, Deb Frank Feinen, Mayor of the City of Champaign, has proclaimed Saturday, April 28, as Jarling’s Custard Cup Day.
It’s been two years since new ownership took over the Champaign institution, reviving the local spot by purchasing it from the Jarling family. That ended an eight-month period of uncertainty from September 2015 to May 2016 when the Kirby Avenue shop was closed.
