Spark Museum + Play Cafe may be gone, but the space located in Urbana’s Lincoln Square will soon come back to life as a cafe, wine bar and pop-up event space, its owner announced via news release late Thursday.
The Urbana-based event planning and management firm “plans to launch a new kind of experience” in the space formerly occupied by Spark Museum + Play Cafe, which closed abruptly in March.
“Under the anchor of an expanded café and wine bar — don’t worry we’ll have beer, too — we will continue to offer creative events and experiences,” said Megan Gillette, owner of Lumen Events, in a news release. “We’re calling it ARCADIA, A Lumen Café.”
Lumen is a co-lessee and tenant of the Lincoln Square location where Spark Museum + Play Café — a completely separate business entity — recently closed. Under Gillette’s direction, Lumen has hosted various pop-up events in the space since June of last year, including wine galas, beer tastings, parent-music shows, dance parties for families, self-care workshops, and numerous events as a part of Imbibe Urbana’s First Fridays.
In the coming weeks, ARCADIA will open on Saturdays, and plans to expand hours in the coming months.
“Our mission is to provide Urbana and our surrounding community with an enriching environment through thoughtful programming, family-friendly events, and unique experiences,” said Gillette.
People should consider taking or teaching a class; booking a meeting, or a party; indulging in a wine flight; or simply come in, grab a coffee, relax, engage with others in our community, and let the kids enjoy our new play and crafting area.”
Formal launch and additional details will be announced in the near future, the news release said.
