Spark Museum + Play Cafe announced on its Facebook page on March 22 it is closing permanently.
From the post: “As of today, Spark Museum + Play Cafe is permanently closing. On behalf of the staff, we enjoyed our time with you and your families. This difficult decision was made for personal health reasons, and we will miss sharing Spark with you. Thank you for all of your support through the last year.”
Spark announced last March that it was opening a non-profit children’s museum in Lincoln Square in Urbana. It proved to be a popular destination for families.
Spark announced last March its intention to take over the space once occupied by a succession of restaurants and bars. Spark opened on June 24.
Spark joins another area children’s museum that closed recently. The Play Day Cafe in St. Joseph closed in October four months after opening its doors.
