School will be out for many Champaign-Urbana area schools on Monday, Jan. 8, thanks to a wintry mix coating area roads with a layer of ice.
The following Champaign County districts have reported they will be closed on Monday:
– Heritage School District
– Unit 7 School District
– Fisher Schools
– Rantoul City Schools
– Rantoul Township High School
– St. Joseph-Ogden High School
– St. Joseph Grade School
– Thomasboro
Others:
Monticello CUSD
Paxton-Buckley-Loda
Oakwood
Villa Grove
The exceptions include:
– Urbana School District. As of late Sunday evening, Superintendent Don Owen wrote on Twitter, “Any @Urbana116 decision about school closing due to weather will be made by 6AM tomorrow. Plan on having school on Monday as scheduled. We will monitor road conditions throughout the night.”
– Still no official word on Mahomet-Seymour School District, as of 10:30 p.m.
The one school district avoiding closing its doors to students is Champaign Unit 4. That district hasn’t yet returned from its winter holiday break, although teachers were to attend on Monday for an institute day. The first day of classes for Champaign Unit 4 students is scheduled to be Tuesday, Jan. 9.
Many of these schools experienced closure on Thursday, Jan. 4 as well.
