The much-anticipated Aldi grocery store in Savoy is nearly complete.
Employees at other Aldi locations in Champaign-Urbana have told shoppers that the Savoy Aldi, located along Route 45, is expected to open Sept. 29. Aldi corporate officials did not respond to requests for comment. (UPDATE: An Aldi billboard near Route 45 and Curtis Road confirms the opening of Sept. 29.)
That date means Aldi is on schedule for the fall opening Aldi had expected.
“We have every confidence we’ll be open this fall,” Heather Moore, Aldi’s Dwight Division vice president, told Chambanamoms in May.
Chambanamoms broke the news in December that Aldi was coming to Savoy, joining its other stores in Urbana and Champaign. The new site is near Route 45 and Calvin Street, north of Christie Clinic.
Moore said the new 18,000 square foot store will be very similar to its Champaign store.
