Chef Raquel Aikman Ritz: A stay-at-home mom and caterer, Chef Ritz offers personal cooking lessons to adults and children in their own homes. She even uses her culinary talents to entertain at children’s birthday parties. Prices vary for private lessons depending on the menu and number of people participating. Common Ground Food Co-op: Common Ground offers cooking classes just for kids but even the classes not specifically designed for a younger crowd are pretty child-friendly. Next month’s calendar includes a kids’ class on homemade crescent rolls and Bento Boxes. There’s also a homemade pasta and ravioli class and one on Ethiopian meat dishes if your child is a bit more ambitious in the kitchen. Michael’s: If your child is into the art of decorating cakes, Michael’s in Champaign offers various cake decorating classes; many that are geared towards children. In October, kids are invited to sign up for a Halloween cupcake decorating class. The cost is $15 plus the cost of supplies.
Champaign Park District: If you’d like your child to start early in the kitchen, check out the Preschool Creative Cooking class offered this fall to 3-5 year-olds at the Springer Cultural Center. For more information about dates or to register, go here.
