Tell us a little bit about yourselves.
Joel has been a game video game artist at Vertex Solutions in Urbana for the past nine years. Joel grew up around pools at Camp Drake, training and teaching swimming and life-saving merit badges to scouts. Lauren grew up at Indian Acres, learning to swim in its 1-2-3 pool with her family. She and Joel became a counselors at Day Camp for many years. Lauren began her entrepreneurial career with her love of animals at Fetch! Pet Care. With her amazing partner, Kristen Duffy, they became the premier in-home care service for the C-U area. In October 2014, Joel and Lauren took their biggest steps yet and became parents of a beautiful little girl, Kara.
What is your favorite thing about being parents?
Our absolute favorite thing about being parents is watching Kara learn and understand. To watch her grow and change is simply a miracle. The time we spend together as a family is priority and absolutely precious to us. With another baby coming in November, we are so excited to see our family grow!
What inspired you to purchase Indian Acres?
We were driven to purchase Indian Acres to keep the long-standing tradition of the swim club going strong. Indian Acres is a safe place for families and children of our community and we wanted to have that available for our children. This swim club, day camp, and swim team is like family.
What makes Indian Acres unique?
The uniqueness of Indian Acres is the family-oriented environment and the services this swim club offers that you will not find anywhere else in the C-U area. Indian Acres Day Camp is known for its excellence in swim instruction and swim safety. The Camp teaches kids as young as 3 years old the basics of safe swimming and familiarity with water. Instruction develops at an individual level as the children grow each summer in their capabilities and have small-ratio instruction at the camp. This camp builds lasting relationships with families, staff, and between the children; effectively creating a tight-knit community that overflows to our pool members. Indian Acres Day Camp combines physical activity instruction with fine arts integration to create a well-balanced youth program.
To welcome new members to Indian Acres this summer, we’re taking 10 percent off day camp enrollment (for new members only). Mention Chambanamoms!
