It appears the odds of fulfilling your winter-long hankering for Custard Cup are getting slimmer.
According to the legendary ice cream parlor’s Facebook page, the Champaign Custard Cup is “permanently closed.” (The Danville location remains open.)
We reached out to Custard Cup’s owners to get a confirmation, but they have not responded to requests for information. A sign on the building says the location is “closed for the season,” and a visit early Monday evening showed someone inside the building, but there is no word on whether Custard Cup will open again. Custard Cup traditionally opened in mid-March.
The business had an eventful 2015 amid rumors that the owners were attempting to sell it. It re-opened on April 8 and closed abruptly on Aug. 30.
