The first thing my kids wanted to know after baths tonight was whether or not they would be going to school in the morning.
My answer was a pretty resounding, “YES.”
The evidence: here in Champaign-Urbana, the winds are calming down and the snow has subsided, according to the National Weather Service. And we didn’t get nearly the accumulation amounts they said we would.
And then there was our friend Don Owen, Superintendent of Urbana District 116, who tweeted this evening that the district planned to be open in the morning.
Plan for all @Urbana116 Schools to be OPEN on Thursday, February 25. Thanks to district and @cityofurbana crews for snow clean up!

However, most of us city folk might not appreciate how potentially dangerous conditions remain around the area, where blowing snow is creating terrible drifts and impassable roads. I got a little taste of it on Curtis Road in Champaign this afternoon, and that was enough to get it. So, we’ll keep an eye out for potential closings around the area.
If you know of a school or other significant closing for Thursday, Feb. 25, post it here in the comments or email us (editor@chambanamoms.com).
Now excuse me while I go clean up the house. That blizzard set off tornadic activity in here.
