This morning we heard the bizarre news that the 92.5 the Chief, the oldies radio station on the FM dial, has been hacked. And one of the demands may affect chambanamoms.com directly.
According to brand/operations manager Jonathan Drake, the hackers took over the station just after 9 a.m. on Monday morning. They also listed demands on the station website, including changing the community nickname from “Chambana” to “Urpaignvoy”.
“Our regular music programming ceased and what everyone has been hearing for the last few hours, that’s what took over 92.5 the Chief,” Drake said in an exclusive interview Monday.
What took over is parts of books on tape, Gregorian chants, and other interesting tunes.
The “hackers” warn they will break out Tony Orlando records if their demands aren’t met by Thursday. Drake said the station is closely evaluating the situation at hand.
“We’ve gotten a lot of calls from people that were concerned and upset that the music they were used to hearing was gone,” he said. “They want to know what’s going on.”
Chambanamoms.com will continue to monitor the situation, for one specific reason – the potential for a name change.
“Then you have to be ‘urpaignboymoms’ and that doesn’t flow at all. That’s ridiculous. That can’t be allowed to stand,” Drake said.
(In full disclosure, chambanamoms.com Mom-in-Chief Laura Weisskopf Bleill appears weekly on Mix 94.5 giving out weekend picks. Mix 94.5 is also part of Illini Radio Group. Listen to her with Sarah – and new host Tim – every Thursday morning!)
