The Town of Normal Children’s Discovery Museum (CDM) is excited to unveil a new exhibit, My Great Backyard, geared specifically for the 5-and-under age group. The exhibit will feature a backyard theme where kids can climb through tree structures, have a picnic with their parents, and play patio games. There is also a soft-scape play area for children who are just learning to crawl.
Research shows that the first five years of a child’s life set the stage for future success in school and life. The CDM is committed to the investment of rich early childhood learning experiences through its exhibits and educational programs.
“The primary objective of My Great Backyard, is to teach our Museum visitors, young and old, how to play,” said Museum Manager Sheila Riley. “Parents and caregivers are encouraged to enter into their children’s imaginations—and our exhibit—in a backyard adventure.”
The exhibit cost $269,000 to set up, and was made possible by the generous support of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and PNC Bank. It will open on Friday, November 28 at 10:00 a.m.
