Your child’s birthday is coming up and it’s time to celebrate!
But how do you make your birthday kid feel special in his or her classroom when
a.) many schools frown upon bringing in homemade or sweet treats and
b.) parents would prefer their children don’t bring home “dollar store stuff” that quickly turns into clutter?
We asked our local mom experts this question and, (not surprisingly) they came back with a mix of great, innovative ideas that would help put a smile on any birthday kid’s face.
Here’s our Top 6 Ideas for Your Kid’s Birthday in the Classroom:
- A Reverse Birthday Present– Your birthday child would present his or her teacher with a gift for the classroom such as a game or book. Each time the game was played or the book was read, your child would be reminded of his or her kind deed. It’s the gift that keeps on giving!
- The Gift of Your Presence– If your schedule is flexible and it works for the teacher’s busy schedule, you could come into class and do a craft with the kids or read them a book.
- Character Counts– Hire a character to come into class and surprise your child and fellow students! What little superhero or princess wouldn’t want Batman or Elsa to read a story to their class? Places like Frogs, Snails and Fairy Tales offer this service.
- Lunch Date– Sweet treats may be out but a pizza party could be your way in- to the heart of your birthday child! Find a cheap pizza deal and offer to pay for the entire class’ lunch. (Check with your child’s teacher to make sure allergies are not a concern.)
- Food Fun– There are plenty of fun, healthy snack ideas for kids that don’t include cookies and cakes. Check out these adorable snack ideas.
- Teacher’s Pet– Talk to your child’s teacher about the possibility of doling out some special birthday treatment. Maybe an extra recess for the class or an opportunity for the birthday kid to do a “Show and Tell” would really make his day.
