It makes me feel old when I say how about the price of things these days, but when I was a kid you could go to the first-run movie for $5 and the second run movie for $1. Last time my family of four ventured to the multiplex for a 3D movie and popcorn it cost us $50. FIFTY BUCKS! FOR A MOVIE!
I’ve got a tip for you. There is an area family-owned movie theater that charges 1990s prices every day. The Princess Theater in downtown LeRoy is a place you can see a first-run movie with your whole family and have popcorn for under $30.00.
Tickets for a regular feature film are $6 for adults and $5 for children/seniors. Tickets to a 3D movie are $9 for adults and $8 for children/seniors. Movie attendance is cheaper by the dozen too! If you are bringing more than 10 people to the movies, you can call ahead and get $1 off per person on both tickets and snacks.
One of my favorite parts of living in LeRoy is that a couple times a month they show an older G-rated movie for free on Saturday mornings (editor’s note: check our calendar, we post freebies there).
The concessions are what blow other movie theaters out of the water. You can spend $18 for two drinks and popcorn at a chain multiplex. At the Princess Theater, two drinks, one popcorn, and one candy cost $8.50. Granted, you will not get a two gallon bucket of popcorn for that price, but refills are only a quarter.
