Champaign Unit 4 School District and the entire community is mourning the loss of a devoted public servant and educator, Greg Novak.
Novak passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2012. He was a current member of the Board of Education and retired Unit 4 staff member.
Novak was elected to the Board of Education in 2007 and was acting as the Board’s Parliamentarian. He was currently serving his second term, which would have expired in 2015.
Novak, who retired from Champaign Unit 4 Schools in 2006, served as librarian at Edison Middle School from 1975 to 1991. He was also the librarian at Jefferson Middle School from 1991-2006.
From 2006 to 2011, he also served as president of the Champaign Federation of Teachers.
According to a press release from the school district, Novak once wrote: “I believe that great schools can help make great communities, and that all students have a right to a quality education in such a school system. It is my personal goal based on 31 years of service in the district to see that our students and staff have the resources they need to make Champaign Unit Four into a great school system.”
Novak was well-known for his sincere and deep commitment to the children served by Unit 4, and he will be sorely missed. We here at chamanamoms.com extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and to those with whom worked closely.
