It’s been a week. I’m still down and out.
Maybe it’s the weather? All this ice and snow. Or maybe it’s perfectly normal to take longer to bounce back after your second loss? Who knows.
I’m trying my best to see the bright side of things though.
Here’s my Top 10 List of Things Making Me Happy–in no particular order.
1. iPhone. I ordered my new iPhone early this morning. I’ve been a Verizon girl for ten years and I’m so excited to finally have access to Apple. Really I’m just excited about the hipstamatic iPhone app. I love a good sunny, shot.
2. Flowers. My out-of-towner aunt and uncle sent me a big bouquet of fresh flowers this week. I wish they lived here so she could have given me a big hug instead, but these flowers are beautiful and very much appreciated.
3. Jet-Setting. We’re leaving for vacation next weekend. One week of warmth–no work–sunny days by an infinity pool overlooking the ocean–and a few margaritas. It should do this body good.
4. Old-Fashioned Exercise. I started running again. Yoga. Weight-lifting. Actual sweat-inducing work-outs. I’ve already dropped five pounds. Probably water weight, but who cares. My pants button again and that’s a good thing.
5. Anti-WWF Smack-Down. At dinner last weekend I resisted the urge to lunge towards–and strangle–a pregnant woman drinking her third glass of wine. Violence is never the answer, but watching this woman barely in her second trimester drink a bottle of wine made me want to come unglued. Apparently, fetal alcohol syndrome aint no big thang. I hope she reads this—recognizes herself–and knocks it off.
6. Snow Days. We spent hump-day cuddled at home with seven foot drifts of snow outside our door. We enjoyed some quiet time—just the two of us. And we talked a lot about how “just the two of us” might just be a-ok.
7. NOOK color e-reader. My hubby bought me one as a “sorry, you’re losing our baby” gift. I have two weeks of free magazine subscriptions and at least five new books downloaded already. Plus there’s a Crossword application. Crosswords=Happiness. Enough said.
8. Sights and Sounds of Spring. I just took down our Christmas tree. The sights and sounds of Christmas brought me comfort this year and I needed the extra month of comforting. Everything’s packed away in our basement now and I’ve replaced the Frasier Fir with fresh flowers and springtime-scented candles. Now if I could just bring back the birds chirping in our trees, we’d be in business.
9. Frozen Embryos. My doctor called Tuesday and told me not to be too discouraged. He reminded us of the three beautiful frozen embryos in Indy waiting to be transferred. He said we could take as much time as we needed before we tried again—and that made me smile.
10. Girlfriends. They really brought their A-Game this time around. Phone calls. Text messages. Dinners and lunches and shopping trips–making me laugh again. My girlfriends are like my sisters and I love them all to pieces. I also love my Grandma and my mom and all my aunts. Estrogen rocks.
So, there you go and there you have it. All these things are putting a little skip in my step as I skip skate down the sunny side of the street.
It’s still icy. But it’s sunny. So put your skates on with me and tell me what’s making you smile today.
